Like a lot of other things that are making a name for themselves on the Internet, there’s no shortage of information on where to get goji berries and how to buy goji berries. However, the modern day consumer will want to have more information than that to make an informed choice.

For example, many people will want to know where these berries come from and how it is they wind up on the shelf in your grocery store. Used in traditional Chinese medicine for almost 2000 years, this fruit grows in both China and Tibet on low-lying plants that produce the berries in the summer.

Most of the berries that are commercially harvested are dried and used as a health food or in traditional Chinese medicine. By all accounts they taste like a mix between cherries and raisins and are slightly bitter. They are also commonly called wolfberries so it’s a good idea to know the other names these go by when you’re looking to buy goji berries. When you’re considering where to get goji berries, it’s always a good idea to start the search on the Internet where you’ll have a bevy of great information at your fingertips.

Several claims are being made about the health benefits derived from this berry and at the top of the list is the product’s antioxidants that work with the cells in your body to protect against the negative effects of free radicals that can damage your cells. These are also a healthy snack since they contain thiamin and calcium. Remember that thiamin is especially helpful for converting carbohydrates into energy. As well, this ingredient in goji berries also helps to promote healthy thyroid function. There is a relationship with health, as a thyroid that isn’t working efficiently will promote weight gain.

Having a good overview of the facts is a great idea beyond just knowing where to get goji berries. Knowing the places online and in brick and mortar stores to buy goji berries is only one step in what you’ll need to know to make the right choice and get the full benefits here.

There are a variety of reasons to cut meat out of your diet, but what do you do about the protein problem that comes with your new life choice? With no more fish, chicken, or beef to pump up protein intake, some people panic and go straight to supplements to stay healthy. However, there are natural ways to keep your diet meat-free and protein-packed.

First of all, why do you need protein? Because it’s the most basic building block that makes up your body. Every part of your body utilizes protein to make every muscle, tendon, and functioning cell work properly. Without protein, your body would begin breaking down muscles to feed itself and keep things working properly. For a healthy person, the proper amount of protein can be determined by multiplying their weight by .37. This means that a 200lb person would need 74 grams of protein, and a 150lb person would need 55.5 grams. This may sound like a lot, but it’s certainly obtainable with a healthy diet.

Let’s start off with the more obvious protein sources. For vegetarians, meats are out of the question, but some still eat eggs, and can be a quick, easy source for those people. Eggs can be scrambled, fried, boiled, deviled, used in baking, or even made into their own dishes like quiche.

Large egg … 6 grams
Cheese/oz … 7 – 10 grams
Milk/cup … 8 grams
Greek Yogurt/cup … 24 grams

However, animal products aren’t the only source, which is good news for vegans. Whole grains can be a fantastic source–especially quinoa. These grains are healthy anyway, but only as long as they remain pure. Grains like white rice bear no nutritional merit, because they’ve been cleaned and husked, taking all the important nutrients out.

Quinoa/cup … 18 grams
Buckwheat/100 grams … 13 grams
Oats/100 grams … 17 grams
Wild rice/100 grams … 4 grams
Wheat/100 grams … 11 – 15 grams

Another source of protein is beans, lentils, and legumes. Beans are more common, but lentils are easier and quicker to cook. They absorb flavor easily, and provide even more protein than some beans.

Lentils/cup … 18 grams
Boiled Soybeans/cup … 26 grams
Kidney beans/cup … 13 grams
Black beans/cup … 15 grams
Peanuts/100 grams … 23.7 grams

Other various foods can be high in protein as well, some of which may be surprising.

Pumpkin/Squash seeds/cup … 74.8 grams
Marmite/100 grams … 27.8 grams
Cocoa Powder/100 grams … 20 grams
Dried Seaweed/100 grams … 58 grams

The search for protein doesn’t have to be difficult for vegetarians, vegans, or anyone. Eating healthy can be easy if you eat a balanced meal. Just look for snacks at your local health food store, or look closely at a grocery store. Be sure to watch for over-processed foods, though, or you’ll miss all those good nutrients.

Millions of people take their vitamins everyday but not all of them understand that there are alternatives to the pill. Liquid vitamins are the same as the ones you are more than likely used to, the ones that come in solid shapes, but these are nutrients suspended in liquid form.

There are some obvious advantages. First off, liquid vitamins are easier to ingest, and if you’ve got some digestive ailment or even something wrong that prevents you from chewing and getting your supplements that way, these are the clear choice. Absorption is another benefit. Because these are not solid, they are more easily broken down by our digestive systems.

Here are some other interesting statistics that point to liquid vitamins as a logical choice for people interested in maintaining their health as they get older. Did you know that taking vitamins in a solid form means that you’re only getting 10 to 12% of the nutrients they provide and that number drops drastically after you hit middle age? On the other hand, research has shown that almost 100% of all the good stuff that the liquid form of these supplements supply can be used after only 30 minutes.

There are other advantages to taking these supplements in liquid form and one of the biggest is the convenience. Busy people on the go in today’s world will appreciate the fact that this product can be consumed at various points throughout the day. Remember too that finding the right mixture means you can get everything that you need from one supplement. Gone is the need to take several different pills to get all your daily requirements in nutrients.

There are flavoured choices as well and that means the usual metallic aftertaste associated with vitamins in the pill form is done away with when you’re drinking your supplements instead.

Finally, remember that you’re not giving up anything of the essential vitamins and minerals when you choose liquid vitamins. There’s no difference here between the solid and the liquid forms when it comes to quality. The obvious differences here are in convenience and taste, but the benefits can’t be disputed.

Aloe vera is an effective sunburn remedy and with over 200 ingredients including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes and polysaccharides, its contribution to overall health and beauty date back to ancient cultures.

More recently, aloe vera juice has become popular for skin healing properties and other nutrients derived from true aloe in a liquid form. It’s believed to have restorative properties to detoxify blood and improve circulation, heal tissue damage and strengthen the immune system.

While many believe its medicinal properties can generally improve overall health, the anti-inflammatory and stool-softening effects liquefied from the plant source have also proven to be a practical natural laxative. In addition to helping to sooth minor burns, cuts, scrapes and skin irritations, proper levels of pure aloe vera can aid as a natural detox, assist the body in healthy digestion and even help with bleeding gums and mouth ulcers. Whether you drink it plain or over ice, mix it with orange or apple juice, or add berry, tangerine or cranberry flavours for extra taste, aloe vera juice will benefit you.

Maybe you’re ready to incorporate something new in your diet to boost your health and energy level. People are raving about the goji berry, which is being compared to cranberry and pomegranate as one of nature’s superfruits. Sold as a health food and dietary supplement, these chewy berries are similar to the raisin in appearance, have a mild, tangy taste, are rich in vitamins A, B complex and E, and boast more Vitamin C than a serving from one orange. Studies in China suggest the nutrients in these berries like beta-carotene improve vision, while essential fats, minerals, amino acids, and proteins protect the liver, slow the aging process and strengthen the immune system.

Remember to consult with your doctor before taking any supplements to avoid negative interaction with other medications. With the stresses of modern life, including hectic work schedules, lack of sleep and infrequent exercise, combined with an overabundance of processed and supersized foods rich in sugar, salt, calories and not much else, we need to foster healthy life choices whenever we can and that includes the nutritional benefits of goji and aloe vera juice to help us improve and maintain our health.

As the summer comes, many things become “in season” including the way we dress, ways we treat the weather, and the way we eat. Fruits are particularly exciting during the warmer weather, but what’s better than a fresh green salad on a hot summer day? Goji plants are good for their berries, but also for their stems and leaves. For dinner this summer, why not get a sprig of goji leaves to feed your green side?

Acquiring these leaves can be done a couple of different ways. For one, you could obviously just buy a container of goji leaves. However, the better way is to get them fresh on the stem. By buying the leaves on the stem you can eat them fresher, but also refresh your supply. After you harvest them from the stem, you can put it in a little dirt and water it, and with enough patience you’ll have another home grown salad in just a little while.

What can you do with goji leaves, though? The berries may be obvious—you pop them into your mouth. But how many people actually like to just munch away on these greens with no preparation or additives? Salads are fairly typical, and can be a cooling choice on a hot summer day. No cooking means no added heat to the house. Goji salads can be delicious with additional goji berries, fresh pear chunks, and toasted walnuts. If it’s a hot drink to get you to sleep that you want, the leaves can be brewed in hot water to create a tasty tea. The leaves won’t have much sweetness, so honey or agave nectar will make for natural sweeteners. There are many other recipes out there, though—soups, salads, and anything else. A common tonic in Asian cultures to help with colds, eyesight, and other ailments is a combination of the leaves and pig liver to make soup.

Asian cultures have been around for a long time and have been reaping the benefits of these miracle foods long before we had the technology to know exactly what they contain. However, we have come to realize that these little leaves are packed with more vitamins and minerals than normal veggies you might be eating. They’re also healthier, with very low sugar content and few calories. The leaves are also packed full of zinc—vital for a child’s brain development.

Whether used for dinner or desert, the goji plant can improve quality of life if they’re utilized properly. Search out recipes, buy a sprig, and find out exactly what goji can do for you.

As the weather gets nicer, people start looking for flowers and edibles to plant in the bins outside or in pots for the kitchen window. Most concentration tends to rely on, “What’s the prettiest flower?” or “What herbs do we use the most?” It’s possible to mix edibility and pretty, though. Most flowers that people like to plant and look at can be used in cooking and actually contain nutritional merit. Chrysanthemums happen to be one of such plants.

Whether you’re browsing the local supermarket or your own plant, it’s important to know what to eat on the plant. You can’t just take a branch and start gnawing away or you’ll end up with a mouthful of bitter, woody stems. The best stalks to purchase and eat are the young green ones. The thinner ones will have a sweet, grassy flavor. However, acquiring a thicker stem isn’t the end of your eating expedition. Thicker pieces just need to be cooked.

Cooking such delicate leaves and stems can be daunting. Chrysanthemums will get extremely mushy if overcooked. The trick is to steam or boil them for just thirty seconds or less to soften the tough fibers and release the sugars. To retain as many of the vitamins as possible, steam the plant. Boiling will cook out some of it into the water, especially if it’s left submerged for long. However, brewing a tea with it is perfect too. Steep it in some hot water for a while with a little honey for natural sweetener for a nice cup of tea, or pour some sesame dressing on the wilted greens for a healthy salad side-dish.

While we all just feel better about ourselves when we chow down on natural greens (face it: you honestly believe the bitterer, the healthier) it’s reassuring to know what exactly you’re eating and why it’s good for you. You can relax to know that a cup of chrysanthemum is supposed to help calm nerves, sort of like chamomile. It’s also said to help detox and lower blood pressure. All this can be twice as comforting because the plant holds little to no measurable amount of sugar or calories.

It’s strange to think how household flowers can be a supplement to our daily diets, but it’s true. Other plants like carnations, clovers, begonias, pansies, peonies, and more can pretty up your plate and your stomach. Double check trusted websites before going out into the woods and having a grass picnic, though.

Being a goji berry blog, we naturally could not develop a list of strange and wonderful fruits from around world without first including the goji berry. This powerful little berry is one of the most nutritious fruits on the planet. Loaded with an array of vitamins, essential fats, minerals, amino acids, and proteins, the goji berry is typically eaten fresh, dried or made into goji juice.

#2. Cherimoya – Native to South America

Although it may look like an artichoke, the cherimoya tastes anything but artichoke like. With a white and creamy flesh speckled with dark brown seeds, the cherimoya tastes like a blend of pineapple and banana. It is similar in size to a grapefruit, and when ripe, the skin is similar in color and feel of an avocado.

#3. Pummelo – Native to Southeast Asia

It looks like a giant grapefruit, peels like a giant grapefruit and tastes similar to a grapefruit, but with a giant sweet flavor. An in fact, the pummelo is the largest citrus fruit in the world.

#4. Jabuticaba – Native to Brazil

The jabuticaba grows in bunches directly on the trunk and branches of the Jabuticaba tree. Comparable in size to a plum, this Brazilian fruit has a purplish black skin with a white pulp, which tastes similar to a grape. It is typically eaten fresh, made into jelly, turned into juice, or even fermented to make wine.

#5. Kiwano melon – Native to Southern Africa

Also known as the horned melon, the kiwano melon is linked to both the melon and the cucumber family. With a yellow-orange skin and a lime green jelly-like flesh with edible seeds, the kiwano has a taste that has been described as a combination of banana, cucumber and lemon.

#6. Ugli fruit – Native to Jamaica

The Ugli fruit is actually a Jamaican tangelo that was naturally created by the hybridizing of a grapefruit, an orange and a tangerine. Ugli is the trademarked name of this fruit, and with its unsightly appearance with a rough and wrinkled rind, it definitely lives up to its name. But one should never judge a book by its cover, as the flesh of the fruit is very juicy and sweet.

#7. Dragon fruit – Native to Central and South America

Dragon fruit, or pitaya, are the fruit of cactus and are characterized by their bright pink outer skins and green scales. This surprisingly juicy fruit is a great source of fibre and vitamin C, and has been said to taste similar to a pear.

#8. Durian – Native to Southeast Asia

The durian is known as the king of fruits, due largely to it’s thorny exterior. The flesh of this fruit however is very creamy with a unique blend of flavours that have been compared to a combination of banana and vanilla, with a hint of onion. The other unique aspect of this fruit is its offensive smell. It can be so bad that many places in Southeast Asia have actually banned the fruit from some hotels and public transportation systems.

Beer festivals are nothing out of the ordinary in Germany, and Japan has quite a few odds-and-ends fairs. Wine tastings are popular in America, but what other social gatherings are popular elsewhere to celebrate popular foods? In other portions of the world, they celebrate one of the top superfoods. A quiet place in upper China has a two week long party for goji berries every year.

Every year in Ningxia, which holds the title of the goji capital of the world, they have a two week long festival to celebrate their culture and people’s dependance on the berry. This festival attracts many students and businessmen and becomes a great cultural and fiscal attraction for the region.

The Ningxia region geologically rests next to the Yellow River and Inner Mongolia, which lets them get the melted snow from the Himalayas to water their land. Climate, soil, and clean location makes this the perfect place for the perfect goji berry, and thus bears people who live past 100 years old. The people of the Ningxia region have been relying on ginseng, ling tzi, and goji for over 5000 years, per ancient medical records.

Some confusion comes from the origins of the festival and the goji berries themselves, mainly based on the relative locations of the different geological features. Ningxia is the home of the berries, and the main place they are grown. Ningxia is in the piece of China, which borders Inner Mongolia directly to the north. When websites claim to sell berries from the Himalayan Mountains, they are refering to the Yellow River Valley, which is in this Ningxia-Mongolia area. Snow on the Himalayas and He Lan Mountains melt and flow into the Yellow River, which creates clean, clear conditions for nutritious berries.

Goji berries are a life saving berry for those of the Ningxia region, and for that, they deserve the two week long celebration they earn every year. Since ancient times they have been recorded to strengthen organs such as the liver and kidneys, as well as protect the eyes and reinforce one’s “life force”. For thousands of years these berries have worked for the Chinese, and only recently it has gone out to other countries. What benefits may it hold in America?

Not only do we offer a variety of goji berry products, such as dried goji berries and juices, like our Healthy Blend juice that includes goji juice, mangosteen juice, camu camu juice, acai juice and aloe vera, but we also offer goji berry seeds so you can grow your very own goji berry plant at home.

Commercially grown in different regions around the Yellow River in China, including the Himalayans and Tibet, goji berry plants can also thrive in the northern hemisphere. They will flower from June through September and the berries will begin to ripen from July to October. It is important to note that a goji plant grown from seed will only produce berries after its third year in the ground.

If you are planning on growing your own goji berries at home the following guide on how to care for them will be useful:

Step #1 – Planting
Plant you goji berry plant after the last frost and ensure that you plant your goji berry plant in a location that has proper drainage. If not, you’ll have to add some organic material, such as compost. This will help it to drain, as the plant is drought resistant and the root system does not require a lot of water.

Step #2 – Location
You will want to plant your goji berry plant in a place that is exposed to sunlight for the majority of the day. Although it does not require a lot of water, you can help speed up the growth by watering it more often if your city does not receive a lot of rainfall. If it rains more four times a month you will not need to add any additional water.

Step #3 – Protect Your Plant
This is especially important in the beginning stages, as mentioned it takes three years for the plant to produce berries, so you will want to ensure you keep wildlife from eating the young shoots and leaves of the plant. Gardening fence and netting works well to keep both animals and birds away.

Step # 4 – Pruning
Goji berry plants, if left on their own, can grow up to 8 feet tall, and although the larger the plant the more berries it will produce it is best to prune your plant to the size of a small bush. You won’t get as many berries each year, but they will be larger and the plant will be easier to care for and protect from wildlife.

If you follow these four simple steps to take care of your goji berry plant, in just three short yearws, you will be well on your way to growing your very own goji berries from home.

Today’s America is all about finding the super foods out there–picking up the blueberries, the goji berries, and other popular names. As consumers, we gain information about these more popular ones and gravitate toward them because we know about them, but there’s always a mysterious interest about the less well-known ones. In this case, it’s the noni fruit that’s gone so long with so little knowledge.
A noni fruit comes from South-East Asia, but because of its recent boom, it’s traveled around the world to Hawaii, India, the Pacific Islands, and French Polynesia, among other places that it can survive and thrive. It’s spread around the world and frequently eaten in other places, but as a fresh fruit, it lacks popularity for a couple of reasons: it’s a tropical mystery, and because it’s so stinky. Yes, this fruit has gotten a nickname as the “cheese fruit” because of it’s pungent odor. The taste could be similarly described, which is why it’s often masked with other fruit juices.
The biggest question when decided if something is a superfood or not is the obvious: What benefits can you get from noni juice? In short, almost everything, but let’s expound. Noni fruits have many components to boost the body. Polysaccharides and antioxidants help the immune system and act as an anti-bacterial and reduce the risk of cancer in the body by destroying the free radicals. Research also shows that noni lowers cholesterol by inhibiting the creation of it in the first place. A chemical in the juice–scopoletin–also binds to receptors in the body that is linked to blood pressure, keeping it safe and low.
As with genies, however, super foods have drawbacks and limitations. The high concentration of vitamins can be harmful to certain people. Those with hyperkalemia should monitor their intake of noni for the levels of potassium. People on blood pressure medicine in general should consult their doctors before going on any sort of diet with noni juice, as the natural chemicals may inhibit or alter the affect of the medicine.
Super foods don’t have to be hard to find at GojiBerries.us. The juice is a mix of different fruit juices, jam packing it full of flavor and vitamins. Use the juice in smoothies, drinks, baked goods, or other foods for a happy, healthy summer.

Using seaweed fertilizer is not a new trend, and in fact there is a long history of coastal peoples using seaweed to fertilize their nearby farming lands.

Typically the seaweed that was washed up on shore was used, although there is evidence that some Scotland farmers would harvest fresh seaweed at low tide. In the UK the practice was to mix the collected seaweed and let it compost before harvesting it for fertilizer. Many costal farmers all over the world used seaweed as a source of fertilizer, including France, the Philippines and in Argentina.

Seaweed fertilizer functions as both a fertilizer and soil conditioner, and can be used on its own or included in other types of wholesale fertilizer.

You should use seaweed fertilizer for the following reasons:

it improves aeration and soil structure, especially in clay soils

it has good moisture retention properties

it can produce higher yields

it will increase uptake of soil nutrients

it will increase resistance to pests, such as mites and aphids

it improves seed germination

and finally, it provides more resistance to frost.

At the heart of this delicious breakfast are its main ingredients, the acai berries. Pronounced ah-sigh-ee, these purple berries are slightly smaller than grapes and have a unique chocolate-berry taste.

Being a fan of both goji juice and acai berries, I’ve created a spin on the traditional Brazilian recipe by supplementing the water or mango juice with goji juice. I also had to opt for packaged frozen acai pulp rather than fresh berries, since the only place you can get them fresh is in South America, as the berries will spoil within 24 hours of picking them.

What you need:

1 large banana
handful of strawberries
200 grams of pure frozen Acai Pulp
1/2 cup of goji juice
1/4 cup granola
handful of dried goji berries

How to do it:

Slice banana, adding 2/3 to blender setting the reaming 1/3 aside for topping
Slice strawberries adding about half to the blender setting the remainder aside for topping
Add frozen acai pulp to blender
Pour in enough goji juice to cover blender blades (typically 1/2 cup)

Blend until mixed well. Mixture should be thick.

Pour mixture into a bowl, sprinkle with granola and dried goji berries.
Garnish with remaining banana and strawberries.

And finally, enjoy!

Packed with antioxidants, amino acids, healthy fats and fiber, this Acai Bowl is a delicious and healthy way to start your morning.

Whether it’s from a cough drop, toothpaste, or a cool winter treat, everyone is familiar with the menthol taste of peppermint. Peppermint is a cross between a watermint and a spearmint and is most popular because the herb doesn’t require as much attention as its two less familiar parents. The flavoring is used in a lot of cooking and has branded itself across many foods such as gum and candies. However, fewer people are quite as knowledgeable about its health benefits as they are with the flavors.

Peppermint comes in different forms when sold in stores. One can find flavoring, which tends to be peppermint extract. It comes from an extract of the oils, bringing with it most of the health benefits and flavoring of the leaves. Stores sell it in capsules and tablets to allow people to get the health benefits without needing to devour peppermint leaves. The plants themselves can be bought and grown to use in home cooking. Peppermint candies are also popular for all times, as they are given out at parades, stores, and restaurants regularly.

The pills that are sold with concentrated peppermint extract, providing health with stomach, dental, respiratory, and aesthetic problems. For the stomach, peppermint contains carminativia, which relieves air bubbles in the stomach and gas problems. It also alleviates problems with low appetite, soothes an achy or nauseous stomach, and treats heartburn. Sea sickness is also on the list of problems fixed.

Dental problems are also dealt with as the antiseptic deals with plaque and mouth bacteria. This fights bad breath and treats toothaches. The menthol in the peppermint creates that minty fresh feeling that arises from using toothpaste, a familiar taste people now expect to come with squeaky clean teeth.

The menthol from peppermint oil is also used in products like Vic’s chest rub. The menthol vapors get into the sinuses and clear them, making peppermint a useful substance for kids with a cold or a flu. It also comes in cough drops, aiding with sore throats.

Finally, peppermint is good for aesthetic uses. For the hair, it removes dandruff and lice. The menthol is good topically and creates healthy looking skin by nourishing and improving previously oily skin.

Peppermint is used for a variety of reasons, whether for a sore throat or tasty gum, the menthol-y mint flavor is familiar to people everywhere. The oil is perfect for keeping the stomach, teeth, lungs, and body healthy, even if the intentions are just to make a good cookie.

As the holidays come and go, certain traditions stay with families; major traditions remain in food choices. Whether it’s roasting chestnuts over an open fire or making cranberries into a sauce for a turkey dinner, holiday foods doesn’t have to be guilt inducing. Some of these food traditions can be a fantastic source of nutrition, making holidays better for the body than most may think.

Chestnuts are tasty to roast, perfect for stuffing turkeys, and make a wonderful gluten substitute. It can be used to make breads, soups, butters, and creams with a nutty flavor. This is perfect because it’s low fat and low calorie, even for a nut. It’s packed full of vitamins and minerals including calcium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, zinc, and potassium. These traits make it comparable to sweet potatoes or corn, which also come as holiday favorites. Those eating chestnuts will find them also a good source of high quality protein, fiber, and exceptional amounts of vitamin C and folates. Folic acids are the building blocks for blood cells and synthesizing DNA, which are both pertinent during pregnancy for a well developed baby. On top of all that, it lowers bad cholesterol and promotes the good kind. Whether it’s used as a gluten-free substitute or not, chestnuts can make the holidays happier for everybody.

Another tradition with holidays incorporates the use of cranberries into dinners and desserts. These are not only a beautiful brilliant red, but also packed full of antioxidants that protect urinary tract infections. The antioxidants work by clinging to the bacteria that may build up or become introduced to sensitive body areas. They disarm it and make the bacteria unable to cling to cell walls, thus preventing it from infecting any other cells or becoming detrimental. These antioxidants also kill H. Plyori bacteria, which cause cancer and stomach ulcers.

Holiday traditions tend to make people feel like they’re putting on pounds, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Chestnuts and cranberries alike, if used properly, can make the holidays into healthy days with just a couple cookies or a ruby red sauce.

Holiday season is filled with mixed emotions. Lament arrives over the lack of sunshine, excitement and elation runs through families as long lost cousins come to socialize bearing gifts, and the food piles onto the tables for days making everyone full but trepidatious about their increasing waistlines and lethargic dispositions as soon as they’ve stuffed themselves. Proper nutrition can be kept through the holidays, however; goji berries are easy to sneak into foods to keep people healthy and energetic to make for a more lively Christmas dinner.

A fresh berry cobbler is always welcome to the dinner table; what better way to sneak health into the diets of vegetable fearing children than with sweets? A quick fruit filling can be composed of the following ingredients:
6 tbsp unsalted butter
1 c each: blueberries, blackberries, goji berries
1 c sugar
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp lemon juice
3/4 c water
1 tsp zest
Mix the ingredients together and let them sit together for 30 minutes to mingle the flavors properly. While that’s sitting, prepare your favorite sweet biscuit recipe, or retrieve a can of pre-made biscuits to cover the fruit to bake into a true cobbler. Biscuits, however, are not a necessary part of a delicious dessert. Stewed fruit alone makes a healthier and equally tasty meal. When the fruit has sat for 30 minutes and the biscuits are ready–if being used–spread them out flat over top of the fruit in an oven safe dish.
After the 30 minutes of letting the fruit rest, place it in a 375 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes. If biscuits are being used, wait until they are fluffy and golden brown. The fruit should be bubbling but not scorched. Check frequently to prevent it from boiling over. Cobbler tastes great served with fresh whipped cream and pleases many taste buds while also pleasing their body’s system’s with the benefits of goji berries.

Goji berries can also be snuck into dessert through cheesecake using the following ingredients:
16 oz cream cheese
1 c sugar
2 room temperature eggs, lightly beaten
2 c blueberries and goji berries
1 tbsp orange juice
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 c orange juice
1/4 c sour cream
Blend a cup of the berries with a tablespoon of orange juice to make a berry puree. Then make the cheesecake itself by mixing the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla. Add the sour cream and the rest of the orange juice. Find a pan for the cheesecake and put half of the cream filling in the bottom. Layer on the berry puree, then cover it with the other half of cheesecake batter. Line the top with the leftover berries.
Bake the cheesecake in a water bath. This means getting a slightly larger pan, filling it with water, and placing the cheesecake’s baking pan in the watered pan. This helps it cook properly. Bake the cheesecake at 350 degrees for 60 to 70 minutes, then let it chill for four hours.

Dessert can be a great way to sneak goji berries into the diets of unsuspecting family members and create a healthy meal. It’ll ultimately lead to a happier holiday with better feeling guests, as well as bring satisfaction that dessert wasn’t completely off a good diet. Goji berries can substitute any berry and be part of any meal.

The recommended daily intake of calcium, for both men and women between the ages of 19 and 50 years of age, is 1,000mg per day. It is important to meet the recommended daily intake to not only keep your bones and teeth strong, but also to keep your body working properly.

If you are unable to get enough calcium from your diet, you could run the risk of developing osteoporosis, and may have to take calcium supplements to make up the difference. Common reasons why you may need a calcium supplement include being lactose intolerant, having a diary allergy, or just generally not consuming enough diary or calcium fortified products.

When it comes to calcium supplements there are two main types: those made with calcium carbonate, which are the most common forms of calcium supplements, and those made with calcium citrate, which tend to not only be more expensive, but also contain lower amounts of elemental calcium, so more of the supplement is required to be taken.

The calcium that is used in supplements can come from a variety of sources, including: coral calcium, oyster shell, bone meal, fossils and dolomite.

One of the best calcium supplements is liquid coral calcium. It is composed primarily of calcium carbonate and not only contains magnesium, but it also includes other essential trace minerals and important nutrients that are essential for optimum health. Furthermore, coral calcium has a similar chemical structure to that of human bone and has even been used a material for bone grafts.

A proper diet is the most important way to ensure you are getting all the required minerals and vitamins that you need each day. However, if your diet is not meeting all your needs for calcium, a calcium supplement is the best way to help keep your bones and teeth healthy and strong.

Twenty percent of Americans suffer from sleeping disorders; not all of those people know how they can help themselves. Insomnia comes in different forms, which means it can be treated differently depending on the problem. Some methods work better for certain people. Some prefer natural hormone therapy, and others would rather take synthesized chemicals. Information on the different methods may help that choice along.

One of the chemical choices of sleep aid is called diphendramine. While sounding complicated, it is actually found in most medicine cabinets under the name of benadryl. Diphendramine is an antihistamine and makes a person drowsy at the same time that it fights poisons. This is because it’s a chemical that binds receptors in the brain, but it cannot tell the difference between histamine receptors and acetylcholine receptors. By blocking the histamine receptors, the histamine can no longer attach itself to the brain and thus symptom relief. When the acetylcholine is not allowed to attach in the brain, it builds up in the blood stream and creates a drowsy feeling in the body. Newer versions of benadryl or “none drowsy” types are more specified as to which receptors it blocks.

A more popular–and more natural–way of falling asleep is taking melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone naturally produced in the pineal gland, which can be found in the brain, depending on the conditions the body is under, including light, sound, and temperature. It does not directly make the body drowsy, nor is it a conventional sleep aid. It works better for resetting or changing biological clocks. This is a perfect option for people attempting to change or create sleeping habits.
Another minor sedative is sometimes used for sleep aid as well–chamomile. It’s a well known herb that can be used to brew teas, but sometimes is found in pill form. It’s been drank for centuries, reaching back to the 1600′s when they started drinking chamomile tea to soothe the stomach and lull the body into a relaxing sleep.
