Hoodia plant is an African plant which is becoming increasingly proper as a weight loss product around the world. Hoodia is a type of cactus. In Africa this plant is also known as Xshoba or xhooba. Hoodia was used by the xSan Bushmen to treat indigestion, minor skin infections and as an appetite and thirst suppressant during long hunts. Hoodia plant resembles a cactus which is seen growing wild in the Kalahari Desert. Biologically the African hoodia cactus is christened ‘hoodia gordonii’. Interestingly Hoodia is a kind of a succulent, so the names hoodia cactus and South African desert cactus are actually misnomers, however people use them because everyone does it. The African hoodia cactus has pale purple flowers. The flowers appear after the Hoodia plant is fully grown.

Phytopharm a leading organization of the United Kingdom has done research related to properties of the African hoodia cactus and to determine the effects and potential of hoodia weight loss. Phytopharm had established plantations in South Africa. Attempts of commercial cultivation of the African hoodia cactus for development of hoodia weight loss products have had some bottlenecks. The major problem surprisingly is temperature. The African hoodia cactus requires the desert like temperatures in order to develop a good quality Hoodia weight loss product. If that was not enough the hoodia cactus matures in four to five years in order to give out a good hoodia weight less product.

Xshoba cactus plants have become extremely limited and hoodia weight loss products are declared as an exquisite product by many governments in African nations. A number of food supplement companies have also started marketing products which contain the plant in powdered or concentrated form. Most commonly the African hoodia cactus products are being sold to dieters as appetite suppressants.

Can only a few drops of a Hoodia liquid such as Hoodithin really suppress your appetite and help you to finally shed those extra fads and pounds? The answer is yes, it can and it has.

In order to make the Hoodia plant marketable and transportable to the general public, the Hoodia plant is completely grinded to a powder and an alcoholic substance used to concentrate the active ingredients. The end Hoodia product is sold as capsules, tablets, liquid form, or in the form of a patch.

When you take a substance as a capsule your body needs to break down the coating on the capsule before you can access the contents inside.

Whereas, liquid Hoodia is quickly absorbed into the blood stream than a tablet or capsule as this breaking down process is done much quicker in the case of a liquid.

The benefits of the liquid Hoodia over pills or tablets are:

1) The liquid Hoodia form is a lot easier to swallow and digest. Whereas, capsules and tablets can be difficult to swallow for children and adults with reflux and the elderly.

Each year, people spend more than $40 billion on products designed to help them slim down. None of them seem to be working very well.

Now along comes hoodia. Never heard of it? Soon it’ll be tripping off your tongue, because hoodia is a natural substance that literally takes your appetite away.

It’s very different from diet stimulants like Ephedra and Phenfen that are now banned because of dangerous side effects. Hoodia doesn’t stimulate at all. Scientists say it fools the brain by making you think you’re full, even if you’ve eaten just a morsel. Correspondent Lesley Stahl reports.
Hoodia is a bitter-tasting cactus-like plant. 60 Minutes was told that if it wanted to try hoodia, it would have to go to Africa. Why? Because the only place in the world where hoodia grows wild is in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa.

Nigel Crawhall, a linguist and interpreter, hired an experienced tracker named Toppies Kruiper, a local aboriginal Bushman, to help find it. The Bushmen were featured in the movie “The Gods Must Be Crazy.”

Kruiper led 60 Minutes crews out into the desert. Stahl asked him if he ate hoodia. "I really like to eat them when the new rains have come," says Kruiper, speaking through the interpreter. "Then they’re really quite delicious."

When we located the plant, Kruiper cut off a stalk that looked like a small spiky pickle, and removed the sharp spines. In the interest of science, Stahl ate it. She described the taste as "a little cucumbery in texture, but not bad."

So how did it work? Stahl says she had no after effects – no funny taste in her mouth, no queasy stomach, and no racing heart. She also wasn’t hungry all day, even when she would normally have a pang around mealtime. And, she also had no desire to eat or drink the entire day. "I’d have to say it did work," says Stahl.

Although the West is just discovering hoodia, the Bushmen of the Kalahari have been eating it for a very long time. After all, they have been living off the land in southern Africa for more than 100,000 years.

Some of the Bushmen, like Anna Swartz, still live in old traditional huts, and cook so-called Bush food gathered from the desert the old-fashioned way.

The first scientific investigation of the plant was conducted at South Africa’s national laboratory. Because Bushmen were known to eat hoodia, it was included in a study of indigenous foods.

"What they found was when they fed it to animals, the animals ate it and lost weight," says Dr. Richard Dixey, who heads an English pharmaceutical company called Phytopharm that is trying to develop weight-loss products based on hoodia.

Was hoodia’s potential application as an appetite suppressant immediately obvious?

"No, it took them a long time. In fact, the original research was done in the mid 1960s," says Dixey.

African hoodia cactus is a popular African herb also known as Xshoba or xhooba. xSan Bushmen used it to treat indigestion, minor skin infections and as an appetite and thirst suppressant during long hunts. This plant usually resembles a cactus when seen growing wild in the Kalahari Desert. Biologists know the African hoodia cactus as hoodia gordonii. As it is a kind of a succulent, so the names hoodia cactus and South African desert cactus are actually misnomers, but they are commonly used. The African hoodia cactus is a beautiful plant as its flowers are pale purple and appear after the plant is fully grown.

A gift of the nature to mankind
Some years ago, Phytopharm decided to research the properties of the African hoodia cactus and for that they established plantations in South Africa. Some problems have been encountered in the attempts of commercial cultivation of the African hoodia cactus. The major problem is that of the temperature. The African hoodia cactus requires the desert like temperatures. Also to be noted is that usually the African hoodia cactus takes four of five years to reach full maturity.

Thus, the count of the Xshoba cactus plants has become extremely limited and hoodia is declared as a protected species by the governments of South Africa greatly restricting it’s harvesting. Moreover, many supplement companies have also started marketing products which contain the plant in powdered or concentrated form. Most commonly the African hoodia cactus products are being sold to dieters as appetite suppressants.

Despite concerns being raised about safety and cost of the planet, there are researches supporting the claims made by these companies. Certain areas of Africa being the only exporters, hoodia products are expensive. Clinical tests are underway and have not been completed and effects of long-term use are not known. Even though there are almost twenty more different varieties of hoodia but only hoodia gordonii is believed to contain the natural appetite suppressant.

It is recommended to buy hoodia products from a reputable company that sells a complete line of products There are few companies which are selling products that are purported to contain the African hoodia cactus, but if it is not hoodia gordonii, then its not going to have any effect. One more thing to remember is to drink plenty of water since hoodia suppresses thirst, as well as appetite. Thus, whatever name you say. While the plant is in great demand, it is a must to protect the wild African hoodia cactus from being over-harvested, remember it’s a gift of the nature which mankind has no right to squander.

While there are subtypes of the species, Hoodia Gordonii, is the only strain of Hoodia that contains a natural appetite suppressant that promotes weight loss, detoxifies the body, promotes internal cleansing, and aids in rejuvening your system.

Goji’s & More’s “Pounds Away” is a naturally rapid detox liquid weight loss program based on a unique formula that provides essential vitamins and minerals required by the body while shedding unwanted pounds.

For centuries, the “San” people of the Kalahari Desert (more commonly known as “Bushmen”), have reaped the many benefits of the Hoodia Gordonii plant. It grows in the high deserts of the Kalahari Desert region of South Africa, and while being a succulent, looks very much like a cactus in appearance.

“Pounds Away”, a natural appetite and thirst suppressant, tricks your brain into thinking you’ve just eaten, so your appetite is satisfied and devoid of cravings. Also, it is not a stimulant, but is a natural source of energy with no side effects.

“Pounds Away” also contains the following:

Mangosteen Juice (Garcinia Mangostan)- a delicious tasting fruit from Southeast Asia, which is known there as the “Queen of Fruits”. It contains the powerful antioxidant Xanthone, which strengthens and vitalizes blood circulation, boosts energy levels, helps prevent premature aging, and helps to prevent dehydration and loss of essential nutrients.

L-Carnitine- a derivative of the amino acids lysine and methionine. It is mainly synthesized in the liver and kidneys, and must by transported to other body tissues that use fatty acids as the main dietary fuel such as skeletal and cardiac muscles. L-Carnitine also helps burn unwanted body fat by oxidizing fatty acid in order to create energy that the muscles can use.

Green Tea extract – Increases metabolism and aids in weight loss. It is also a fat burner in its own rights, is rich in bioflavonoids, and fights free radicals as well. It is also a natural blood glucose regulator, has high catechin content that helps to reduce body fat and helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels as well.

Guarana- This plant contains Methylxathine, which is the main source of its energy boosting properties, and is traditionally used as an appetite suppresser.

Goji’s & More’s “Pounds Away” Liquid Detox Weight Loss Formula can be enjoyed by sipping it pure, or by adding it with your favorite beverage.

Disclaimer: Consult your physician prior to starting any diet or exercise program.
