Planting Gogi Seeds for Goji Plants

Though the original and best quality of goji berries is abundantly found in the Himalayan Mountains, you can grow your own plant of goji berries anywhere. All you will require for planting goji berries are the goji seeds, water, sunlight, soil and some area where the plant can freely grow. The area could be a plant pot or your backyard. If you have a greenhouse, growing your goji berries outdoors would be ideal.

The first step in planting the goji seeds involves preparing the soil for a good planting. The seeds can grow in any type of soil ranging from medium to loamy and clay to sandy. For the most effective growth of the seeds, organic soil could be used as for the first six months the goji plants are very fragile. If you are thinking of growing your goji seeds in a glass container then any type of soil will do, keeping in mind that you mix the soil well with worm castings and biological compost. It is important to check the alkaline level of the soil because the right level of 8.2 to 8.6 on pH scale would be very helpful for your plant.

Do not add any fertilizers as the goji seeds do not require any. Excess water can damage the plant so take care while watering the plant. If you have planted your goji plant in a container then you would need to transfer them outside or to an open backyard as they mature after six months. If you are growing the plant inside your house, make certain that an arrangement for light is done for the plant, as the plant requires sunlight to grow. Eight hours of sunlight is necessary for the plant in order for it to grow healthily and steadily.

Usually, in the first couple of years, goji plants do not produce goji berries. The whole process would require a lot of patience from your side. Regular trimming of the plant could help in better yield. Keep your goji plant protected from any pet animals you have.
