Pure goji juice controversy
Several companies claim to be selling “pure” goji juice. Unless it has been, and needs to be refrigerated prior to opening, something must be added in order to preserve the freshness of the product. Usually, it is an insignificant percentage and sometimes not put on the product label…sort of a “white lie”. Some companies disquise the goji berry juice flavor by adding apple juice, other sweetner, or anything that will mask the strange taste of the goji berry. Juice squeezed from fresh berries should have an orange color, while reconstituted juices normally will have a coffee color and a prunelike flavor. Most juices filter out the solid matter such as the peel, pulp and seed. Much of the nutrition is lost when this juicing process is done.
Some companies will claim to have various mg’s of goji in their bottle or serving, or varying number s of pounds of berries in their product. This is difficult to prove or disprove, however. In conclusion when asking questions prior to purchasing, consider the above information so you can make a more informed and intelligent buying decision.
